Meet Bill Neely

Bill has been a broadcast journalist for forty years, beginning at the BBC in Northern Ireland in 1981. He covered the conflict there for six years.

After two years at the BBC in London, he helped launch Sky News in 1989 before moving to Britain's main independent news company, ITN.

He then worked for seven years as a Chief Global Correspondent of the US TV network NBC news, travelling across the globe covering the top stories of the decade.

Neely has covered major international events, from the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union to wars, earthquakes, summits and Olympic Games.

He has interviewed leaders across the world, including several US presidents, and reported on dozens of national elections, but conflict reporting was at the heart of his career.

He has won numerous awards from the Royal Television Society, three consecutive BAFTA awards, an Emmy and the prestigious American Peabody award for the coverage of ISIS in Iraq.

He runs marathons, competes in triathlons, loves wine and football, and is a lifelong supporter of Leeds United.

He is married with two daughters and divides his time between Lispole, County Kerry, and Richmond, outside London.

Bill Neely is a born and bred Belfast boy and although he has spent most of his career outside Northern Ireland's capital, you can take the boy out of Belfast, but you can't take Belfast out of the boy. He will welcome you to his home city and home province with a deep affection for its history, poetry, landscape and craic!

Join Bill for a tour of one of Europe's buzziest, edgy and in-the-moment cities, a centre of the TV and movie industry, a once troubled capital now reborn, and a place of extraordinary history and culture.

Bill grew up during the so-called "Troubles," witnessing some of the worst violence in Europe. He will show us some of the focal points of that era, both in Belfast and in Northern Ireland's second city, Derry. We'll visit one of Europe's most renowned museums, sited where the famous ocean liner Titanic was built. We will see the dramatic coastline that holds one of the geological wonders of the world, The Giant's Causeway, as well as many locations where Game of Thrones was filmed. We'll visit some of the most celebrated pubs in Ireland and Britain and enjoy stunning views from a city that boasts one of the most spectacular settings in Ireland. We will also visit the lakeland of Eniskillen, a mecca for fishermen and a place of outstanding beauty. Derry is ringed by the best-preserved city walls in Ireland and Britain and has a rich history.

Northern Ireland is both Irish and British, a cultural mix deep in the DNA of a land steeped in poetry, a passion of Bill's. This is the land of Nobel Prize winner Seamus Heaney and more poets than you can shake a stick at. So, watch the movie Belfast and the series Blue Lights, laugh with Derry Girls, shudder at Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland and get ready for a tour you won't forget in a hurry.
